[Movie Review] Despicable Me 2 – The Adorable Family Flick July 26, 2013

7.8 – IMDb
75% – Rotten Tomatoes

My rating: 7.5
Today on the bus I’ve found the perfect way to describe Despicable Me 2.

Imagine if someone presented you with a plate of dish, which has all the best ingredients in the world and has all your favorite food in it, but the problem is, none of it was cooked well.

That’s exactly how I felt about Despicable Me 2.

It’s fun, it’s cute, it’s adorable, it’s heart warming, it’s exciting, it’s hilarious…

But none of these elements were extremely well executed that I could call this movie a classic.

In this sequel to the original Despicable Me, Illumination Entertainment learnt from past experiences, and realised that the audiences loved the minions way more than they had expected them to.

And so they decided to give the minions more screen time, and even went to the extend of making them a big part of the crisis Gru had to face.

They were trying to achieve too much in too little time, and throwing in every good idea that was mentioned in the development period of the script.

One of such example is the minion who starts having a crush on Lucy after seeing her.

It was a fun idea, but that only lasted for a few minutes on-screen, and then it was never mentioned again.

Talking about Lucy, I have to comment on how likable this character is, it’s actually very rare for the audience to immediately like a character the instant they see them(not attracted, just like), especially not a female sidekick.

We know how female sidekick usually turns out to be, sexy and hot, their only purpose is for guys to fantasize.

However Despicable Me turns that entirely around, and gives us a female sidekick, who will be liked by both male and female audience, not overly sexualized, not overly annoying, has the shyness of a female yet the goofiness that doesn’t make her just a beautiful flower vase.

I also really liked the sassy villain El Macho, however he was a pretty shallow villain, and was defeated in a really short time, in a pretty lame way.

Everything is so rushed in the movie, and I could hardly feel the connection between the characters, it’s like being given an apple, and before you could take a bite, someone switch it with an orange, and before you could peel the orange, someone switch it to a strawberry.

However, despite that, the movie does what it promise to do.

It brings you laughter, the minions are really cute, even the kids became more likable than before.

There were several moments where I literally burst out in laughter, and not many movies could get me to do that.

Most of the audience, would definitely enjoy this movie greatly, especially children.

It’s better to look at this movie from a mindless point of view, just absorb in and buy whatever that’s presented to you, and I promise you, you will have a good time.

This movie does have it’s flaws, but it’s not bad enough to make you feel like they’re not even trying, in fact they’re trying very hard.

I guess we shouldn’t be so harsh on a company who is still trying to find it’s place in an animated industry dominated by Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks.(maybe Bluesky too)

It is the perfect example of a fun movie, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, it gives you what you’re possibly looking forward to.

Not just that, the tone and pace of the movie stays constant throughout, which is also pretty commendable, a lot of movies today just drifts away when the script writer has a writer’s block but has to rush for deadlines.

There’s not a single moment where you feel that this movie isn’t entertaining you, it just keeps showing you new things that amuses you, maybe it’s bad in the aspect of underdevelopment, but in terms of entertainment, it’s perfect.

The romance aspect in this movie is also really well done, especially how they showcased young love which does not last; The romance that blossomed between Gru and Lucy is really natural, it’s not cheesy or forced, I’m actually convinced that these two characters really do love each other and I feel happy for them.

I would recommend everyone to go see this movie, or maybe just a friday night when you snuggle in your bed and trying to find entertainment, this is the perfect fit.

If you have a child, or a sibling who is still young, let them watch this movie, they’ll have the time of their life.

Maybe not in a Disney movie way that’s like, when they grow up and re-watch it, they’ll discover many new things they hasn’t when they’re young.

But for this movie, it’s exactly what parents are constantly looking for to show their kids.

I still hope they had developed the story and the character interaction a little more, but even without that, I still enjoyed the movie nonetheless, and that itself, already proves that this movie is a success.

At the end of the day, aren’t we all just hoping to be entertained?

5 Taobao Shop I Suggest You Don’t Buy From September 28, 2012

All speaking from personal experiences, no benefit is gain from this post, simply told from a customer’s POV.

In order to make it onto this list, this shop must have TERRIBLY disappointed me.

First of all, I’m not a picky buyer, most of the time I’ll give a good review as long as the quality is decent, even if it’s not, as long as it’s not bad, I won’t be that bothered.

Well, however, it might just be because I was unlucky, I happen to be the few customers they didn’t pay that much attention to?

Just a little bit of experiences I had, it’s not 100% accurate, after all I’ve probably just bought from them once or twice.

1. 1/2 Prince (Wigs)
Okay, this one isn’t severe, it was just a issue about my head being too big.
The problem probably lies with me, so people who are thinking about buying from this shop, don’t worry too much.
So, I bought a Shizuo wig from them.

I have to say, the style is perfect, simply perfect, perfection.

Actual wig

However, the flaw was that, it’s really thin.
Probably just 1 layer of fibre.
Another thing is, the net under the wig is really small, and my head had a pretty hard time fitting in.
But I must say, it’s really well-styled.
So my dear friends and readers who have a pretty small head circumference, just go ahead, because the quality is not the problem.

2.Meng Meng Cos(Cosplay Shoes)
Hmm… Where do I even start.
I was planning to do a Megurine Luki cosplay, and as every Vocaloid fan should know, Luka herself have really special shoes.
Golden boots, with the shoe lace slanting towards one side.
So naturally, I turned to Taobao.
Because I was using it for Luki, so I didn’t want it to be heels, it would be way too feminine for him.

I bought the pair that has a complete base, and when it reached me, I was stunned by how fragile the materials are.

Let me tell you, it’s just a layer of fake leather, the end.
The shoes were also a lot smaller, and the base was so small, and with the boots so fragile, when wearing it, your feet fall everywhere.
Most girls face this problem, the front of their feet is a little bit too big for normal heels, and that was the problem I faced with those boots.
Not just that, I can’t even close the lace completely to cover my socks.

I’ve only wore them once, and I don’t ever dare to wear it again.
After the event I even had to change to the pair of platform boots I had lent my friend earlier.
For my fellow cosplayers, you should know how uncomfortable platform boots can be.
But guess what? After changing to platform boots, I felt a lot more comfortable!
Don’t be fooled by the fact this shop had a crown, it’s only because very few shops on Taobao give such services.

3.The Hope(Cosplay accessories, eg stockings)
I’ll be straight forward about this one.
DON’T BUY FROM THEM.
I’ve bought from them twice, first was for my friends who were cosplaying as Stocking from Panty and Stocking, and that wasn’t that big of a problem.
After all I wasn’t the one using them, so I don’t have much of a say on that one.
So, based on the first good impression, I bought from them again.
Guess what? The stockings came to me DIRTY.
I bought 2 pairs of white stockings, 1 pair of black.
One of th white stockings had a patch of yellow mark on it, the other had blue.
The black one turned out pretty fine, but I was still pissed, because I’d rather they stain the black, instead they stain on the white, which makes it look mega obvious.
Also, for the free gift they give for every item you buy, basically, it was just things that the seller didn’t want anymore.
Take for example(taken from actual comment), expired instant coffee powder.
That’s so fucking useful, I wonder if it can earn me a MC for school/work.
Also, don’t believe what they say about the products being made in Japan, they’re probably made in China.

4.CosOnline (wigs, costumes, props, make up)
Actually, I don’t even have to mention this shop’s name, because you can’t buy anything from them right now due to the fact they’re heavily affected by the island fight between Japan and China.
But it’s still worth mentioning because I was really angry with what I got.
I bought this Panty gun, the seller had mentioned that it will look slightly different from the picture.(because of material difference)
But what I got, was VERY different from the picture.

Let me show you some picture of how different the actual product is.

Yep, and fucking 74RMB for this.
It’s not even about how different, it’s a issue about whether the seller is putting in any effort.
Don’t say shit like “you could make one yourself.”(I tried actually, and failed)
Well, she’s opening up a shop to sell such things, I have the rights to comment on the things she make.

5.Anselarno(underwear, stockings, mainly for females)

Maybe it was just a be choice of location to buy such things.
I bought two safety pants, because at that time I was thinking of cosplaying as some characters with rather short skirts, and I was sending in an order, so I thought, why not?

Then… When it came to me, it was really tight.
Maybe I just have really large thighs(which I do), but it was supposed to be free size, and the white pair I bought was translucent.
So during a photoshoot when my skirt flew up due to the wind, the photographer could still see things.(he’s probably disgusted rather than happy)

Well, just gives me a second thought about buying from them again.(their products does look really well presented)

Especially since the shop is Tmall, meaning it’s supposed to be branded and approved.(Big brands like Adidas, SK-II, CASIO, MANGO…)

That’s all I have for now, I’ll post a part 2 when I get more products from other shops, always trying new things, and my father isn’t making me very happy with his new girlfriend and a child I don’t fucking know came from where, so I’m not very guilty about spending his money now.

Just kidding, maybe half serious but whatever.

Do leave a comment about any terrible experience with taobao shops, that had greatly disappointed you with their products.

Things I Wanted But Glad Did Not Buy September 22, 2012

All of us definitely had been through this before, the temptation of wanting to buy something, yet at the same time, you’re unsure of whether will it be a right choice later on.

It may not apply to rich people, but for most of us, it is a huge dilemma.

So a few days ago, I’ve got an idea to list out all the things that I’ve wanted to get, but is glad I did not.

1.DSLR Camera

This might seem surprising, but I actually have a slight interest in photography.
I even went to the extend of really researching on the price of an average DSLR camera, the models, and stuff like that.
However, as you could probably guess, the price was not exactly that affordable, so I just decided that maybe not now.
After sometime, when I think back, I’m actually pretty glad I did not give in to the temptation and get that camera.
Reason being, after actually studying about photography and videography, I realised that this just isn’t my thing.
All the functions, the settings, it’s too confusing for me.
So yeah, so glad.

2.Ball-Jointed Dolls

For those of you who are not familiar with what this is, these are actually really pretty dolls that you can move their joints and change their body parts, clothes and wigs/hair, even make up.
Don’t associate them with Barbie dolls because you can’t develop feelings and affection for Barbie dolls.
They’re so pretty that I really really wanted one.
Just like the DSLR camera, BJDs are really expensive, and hard to take care of.
After thinking through, I realised that I’m really not the figurine/dolls type of person who can put in so much effort to make them look good, and just feel happy by having them.
I high respect all my friends who own BJDs, because I can see how much time and effort they had put in, and how much they love them, so yeah, I really respect that.
At the same time, I know I can’t do the same.

3.Tablet PC

This was when I really wanted to be able to draw on the computer, to be able to do digital painting.
Same old problem, too expensive, hard decision to make, left it hanging for a while and realised that I really didn’t need it that much.
I already have two laptops(One of them is a Macbook, don’t judge me school forced me to get it), and I’m not even that good doing traditional drawings yet, so getting a tablet PC would be a total waste of money and resources.

4.iPad

Similar to the tablet PC, however the temptation only came to me when I saw the announce of the first iPad.
I saw the introduction on Apple’s website, and thought that the iPad is such an awesome tool and I totally need.
As usual, the price frightened me, and so I went to research on whether is it really worth it.
Honestly speaking the article I read back then made me pretty bored, but in the end I still didn’t get it.
After a few years, one of my best friends obtained an iPad from a business partner of her father, and I played around with it for just 5 minutes and decided that I totally didn’t need this.
What a relief I had, to find out that I didn’t spend the precious money on something I actually really didn’t need.

5.Playstation/Xbox

When I was younger, the two consoles were just so damn attractive to me.
They’re like Playboy magazine cover girls for teenage boys to me.
That was when I was REALLY young, like…. 10?
When I saw the console in an electronics store, I begged my mom to buy it for me.
Being the kind mother my mom is, she usually wouldn’t deny any requests from me unless if she really can’t do it.
Yes, it was too expensive, and so my mom just comforted me and led me away.
Now that I think back, I realised that my love for games is already satisfied by computer games and GBA/NDS games.
I really didn’t need the Playstation or Xbox, and some of my friends who have it can just let the whole bunch of our friends go to their house and play it TOGETHER.
Which is better than getting the console by myself and be forever alone and play all the games alone.
Yeah.

6.Japanese Lessons

Okay this is something I’m glad I did not choose to take/learn.
Actually I do really want to learn Japanese, and it was on my mind for like, a decade?
But if you’re like me, who still makes a lot of errors in English, already starting to suck in my mother tongue(Chinese), studying a new language might not actually be a good choice.
Especially when I have no plans to go to Japan at all, I can rely on translation groups when I read Manga or watch Anime.
I’m already struggling with my own studies(well usually before the deadlines are near), Japanese lessons will probably make my life a lot harder and I’m not sure whether am I ready for that stress.
I’m a coward, sue me.

7.Diet Pills

Let’s face it, most girls think that they’re fat, and it’s proven that I am pretty fat according to Asian standards.
I’m about 66kg and 169cm tall. My BMI is 23.1, which is normal, but it used to be just 20.
You can imagine how depressed I was when I noticed my weight gain, and so desperate measures(I hate exercising), I wanted to get diet pills.
Compared to other things, they’re pretty damn expensive, and so I just left the idea there for a while and forgot about it.
Now that I think back, not getting it is the right choice(I suppose), I don’t even know whether will it 100% work on me, and if it doesn’t, I would have spent the money for nothing.

These are all I can think of at this moment, I’ll make a part 2 next time when I remember more.

I might even do a ‘Things I Regret Buying’ post next time.

Do comment about things you’re glad you did not buy too.

Cosplay Memes! September 18, 2012

Memes had been the big thing on the internet since I forgot when, and for all my cosplayer readers out there, there’s this one particular page that I know you would enjoy scrolling through.

My friend BPRX had created this page called Cosplay Memes.

Yes, you know exactly what I mean, memes about cosplay!

You might think, ‘Oh dear God, not another forced meme that isn’t even funny’, well, guess what, this one’s actually really good.

Why is that so? You see, the key thing about a successful meme is that people find relevance in them, and screams “THAT’S SO TRUE” at it.

Well, the memes on the page really does make many cosplayers scream ‘I’M NOT ALONE IN THIS WORLD’.

Still not convinced yet? Well, let me just show you some examples.

Well, those are actually my personal favorites.

The character my friend used is Danbo, and it is an actual cosplay costume he built and wore during one of the events, he explained it in this post why he chose this particular character as the main character of the memes posted on the page.

Also, you can just call him Danbo-kun when trying to communicate with him.

He’s really friendly and nice to talk to, so don’t be shy and just give him your suggestions of your idea of the memes on the page itself, or sent him a private message, I’m sure he’s fine with which ever way you’re comfortable with.

Hope you like this page I’m recommending, I’ll be in search for more fun things for my dear readers, so do look forward to it!

Taobao Wig Shop Reviews – Fantasy Sheep August 14, 2012

This is the post I promised, sorry it’s quite late because I was swimming in assignments recently.

The shops I chose to do on in such posts are the ones I personally bought from several times, and had direct personal experience with.

Disclaimer, I am in no way related to any taobao shops and writing this post does not gain me anything in monatary value, I am simply speaking from a buyer’s POV.

Fantasy Sheep

What’s the first shop any cosplayer would mention when they talk about wigs? Yep that’s right, Fantasy Sheep.

Ratings & Credibility:

The shop have an overall rating of 4 crowns(considered REALLY high).
4.8/5 for how similar the actual item is with the description and pictures.
4.9/5 for the shop owner’s attitude while communicating.
4.8/5 for the speed of the delivery of the item.
The shop had also signed the agreement to make up for any reasonable mistake if the item turned out to have any problems.
And a return policy that will refund you if you return the item in 7 days.
For the past 6 months it received 27173 positive reviews, 31 neutral reviews and 6 negative reviews.

Variety:
The one thing that made Fantasy Sheep stand out is the wide variety of things they sell, though they specializes in wigs, but they also offer cosplay costumes, make up, wig care products and simply just anything that’s might come in handy for ACG lovers.

Not too long ago the shop introduced the XSP series, which contain a series of basic style wig and pre-styled wigs of varying length, which comes in a specific shades of different colors.

You could also check out the leftover of their previously retired SP series, which contains a variety of basic style wigs.

Like most other wig shops, Fantasy Sheep also have a wide variety of wigs that are pre-styled for the popular series that are often cosplayed.

Quality

What is Fantasy Sheep known for? The thickness of their wigs.

Believe me when I say that Fantasy Sheep’s wigs are probably the thickest you can find, however there is a flip side to this.

The fibre is usually slightly more rough compared to the other shops.

I assume that this is because in order to thicken the wigs they’ll have to use a cheaper fibre.

The seller had also explained about why wigs might appear to be of a different color when it reaches you.

One other thing I love about Fantasy Sheep is that the net under the wig is big enough to fit almost anyone.

Price

The wigs they sell are known to be more expensive than other shops.

It’s a bit hard to calculate exactly how much though.

Personal Experience

The first wig I bought from Fantasy Sheep is a blonde 80cm curled wig.

This wig has rough fibre, it tangles pretty easily and the curls come out after some brushing.

How it looked like from the website

How it looked like under normal lighting:

The second time I bought from them it was this American wig that my friend requested.

I don’t have an actual real life picture of this wig, but I can tell you I was a bit shocked that the color came at least two shades darker and it became more like brown than blonde.

I also helped a friend buy a cosplay costume from them before, Stocking’s default Goth Loli costume, the quality was really good and my friend told me she doesn’t feel warm at all even under the hot sun.

This is how it looked like in real life.(Hope my friend don’t kill me,visit her dA 8D)

After that they had the SP series clearance sale(to make way for the XSP series), and I bought two mid-length wigs which would suit my character.

First is the purple one.

Surprisingly the fibre is actually the smooth sort, however the wig wasn’t as thick as the blonde one I had gotten.

The color, using a lousy Nokia camera.

I borrowed the wig to a friend who needed it for a project, and I covered her face in order to protect her identity since she has nothing related to cosplay.

As you can see the end part of the left side  is flipped, I assume that maybe because of the way I stored these wigs.

It doesn’t really affect me because I am going to cut the wig sooner or later.

The other wig I bought was dark neon pink, which I have yet to take it out and try, but it’s of the exact same style as the purple wig.

The color of the actual wig.

I have also gathered some other views I found online about Fantasy Sheep wigs, and I will link them below.

[Movie Review] Chronicle – The Story of a Broken Soul March 30, 2012

Ratings:

IMDB – 7.4
Rotten Tomatoes – 84% Certified Fresh
My own – 8.0

I watched this a while ago with Jelly, wrote some reviews and are just not satisfied with them. (well once was because my computer’s power source got cut off due to the lightning, it’s still raining outside now and I hope it won’t happen again.)

Anyway, it’s a really interesting movie, maybe because I am ignorant, but this is the first time I see a movie like that.

The story begins with showing how the main character – Andrew, is an outcast who is bullied in school, with family problems that he can do nothing about, the only person who truly cared about him is his mother who is dying, and his father hated him to the core, giving him the worst life possible.

His cousin Matt is a much more popular guy compared to him and didn’t bother much about him other than sending him to school.

It only gets to the real story when Matt and Steve called along Andrew into a cave with extraterrestrial object, and accidentally gained telekinesis power.

This is the first time I see a found footage movie, it’s a whole new experience, especially with an interesting plot like this.

Andrew, being a complicated and broken person, with the most talent in the supernatural power out of the three, becomes the super villain in comic books.

This is what I like about this movie, the main protagonist isn’t a good guy who saves the world, he is the one attempting to destroy the world.

A rather interesting concept in my opinion, because I have seen enough of socially awkward teenagers becoming heroes saving the day giving virgin boys some hope instead of improving on themselves.

Also a good thing about this movie is that, because the holder of the camera have telekinesis powers, he is able to hold the camera in the air(in excuse for another person to hold it), so it doesn’t shakes as much and make your head go dizzy while watching it.

The pace of the movie is good, though not perfect, a little too slow at times, or maybe it could be just me not bearing to see the painful things that happens to Andrew. Some people may think the movie is going to suck around the middle of the movie, or may get bored and just give up on it.

A rare production of Hollywood where most/all things in the movie actually makes sense, instead of being unrealistically idealistic.

The idea of the story isn’t exactly original, teenagers gaining powers, but it is presented in a rather different way than other movies, a way which actually makes you want to watch it without thinking it will just be a stupid story of teenager angst. It’s a combination of a few factors, which are usually presented individually, that is why it makes this movie a lot more special compared to others.

Not just that, because of how realistic the movie is, people can actually relate to it, especially teenagers just like the three main characters. When they first gain powers, how they start toying around with their super powers, playing harmless pranks on people, doing all sorts of crazy things.

Also the part where popularity could mean so much to a teenager, yet it could be so fragile, one moment you’re a super star, next moment everyone laughs at you without you turning your back.

The expression of these key factors of being a teenager is presented really well, to the stage I could even feel for the characters at some parts of the movie, I believe when a movie could do that this movie didn’t fail.

Throughout the movie I felt really sorry for Andrew, I wished for a happy ending, despite knowing it’s almost impossible, and it would have been lame if this movie did have a happy ending.

He’s exactly like the type of villains we see the comic books, with a sorrowful story behind him, forcing him to join the dark side, and despite doing all sorts of evil things, we just can’t hate him. Even after he got defeated by the hero(who in this movie isn’t exactly one), we feel sad for him, because we know deep down inside he isn’t a bad person, not the evil being everyone else thought he was.

The other two supporting characters(I wouldn’t call them main because of how Andrew is really the center of the story), Matt and Steve, on the other hand, are slightly less developed.

All I know of Steve is that he is a popular model student living in a rich family, and Matt who is trying to hook onto a Good Girl Gina.

Despite that they still played a key role of making this movie not just about how Andrew got mad at the world and start killing, they gave us hope, a little bit of joy in a movie meant to be a tragedy. They made friends with the friendless, they tried to help him, they did, but failed in the end anyway because the problem behind Andrew is a lot bigger than it seems.

The movie showed how cruel the world is and an explanation to how some people become someone like Andrew, our coldness towards people may indirectly caused the insanity of a person.

A few things might have made Andrew completely different, such as if the pharmacy gave him the medicine his mother desperately needed, that would have made a dramatic twist to the story.

The ending was a bit too short, I wanted to see more of Andrew’s madness and his destruction of the city.

Why? I admit I am sadistic, but that’s not the main reason.

The thing is I could feel his rage and anger, I could almost feel it personally, and want to destroy the world in his place.

This is how strong the emotions are which the movie brought to me.

I actually think if I were Andrew, or even if I weren’t him and I gained the same power with the same talent, I would have become someone just like him.

Which is why I felt that the destruction and damage he did was too little, before Matt finished him, saving both the city and Andrew himself.

Despite thinking the destruction scenes are too little, I’m actually satisfied with the fact Andrew got killed.

There are no other realistic solution to solve the problem, which is why I say this movie follows closely to the most possible things that could happen if it happens in real life.

I won’t suggest people who can’t take things seriously to watch this movie, because I literally felt my heart rage when I walk out of the movie theatre with some teenagers completely misinterpreted the purpose of this movie, and start judging how stupid it is.

However it’s definitely worth watching if you’re looking for something different from the usually Hollywood commercial movies.

[Movie Review] The Hunger Games – That Game About Survival March 27, 2012

Rating:

IMDB – 8.0

Rotten Tomatoes – 85% Certified Fresh

My own – 8.0, cause they rushed the second part

The theme about people being put into a fight, and kill each other, then only the last can survive and get all the glory, had been told many times.

I see a lot of people comparing The Hunger Games to Battle Royale, well, as someone who loves Anime too, I can tell you, the theme had been told in Animes too, Rozen Maiden, Sekirei, Mai Hime… It’s not just THG, it’s just a theme, idea, and it all depends on how it’s presented, which in my opinion, THG did an excellent job presenting this theme, however Battle Royale is still a classic, just presented in a pretty different way.

They’re both fucking awesome, so let’s stop quarreling and move on with our lives, okay? ^_^

Back to the topic, I have never read the books, so I watched the movie without any expectation.

I thought it’s actually a good way, I did this when I went to watch Angels and Demon too, then I read the book, and the experience was a lot more enjoyable.

Because the movie will definitely leave some details out, let’s say it’s just a 75% of the original, and then when you went from 75% of the story to 100% in the book, you will feel more fulfilled.

Also I think if a movie can survive on it’s own, without people having to read the book to enjoy it fully, then it can be considered a good one.

So I’ve decided that I won’t read Catching Fire and Mockingjay until I finish the movie, despite already getting my hands on all the three ebooks.

Also since I watched the movie without any idea how the original is like, I enjoyed it to the fullest.

It’s a rather teen friendly movie, without too much gore and blood, so people like me who are afraid of blood, go ahead and watch it.

I have to say the idea of the entire story is brilliant, despite being presented in the future, it has some link to the current world.

I also love how it has the depth about the society instead of a story just about kids killing kids, cause if it’s a story about that it’ll become a really bad movie just like The Human Centipede(I know, ew), which is made only for human’s amusement and sadistic nature, which honestly in my opinion, is truly distubing.

The author probably wants people to feel the imbalance of the world, how in Capitol people can be so rich, and how in the 12 districts people can be so poor.

Also how sadistic humans are some times, to see a game of killing without feeling sense of pity.

You might think this is just a story, but what the author wrote are exactly what is happening in the world now, which is why I love  the setting and story so much.

Yet despite the cold-blooded-ness of the people in the Capitol, the theme of care and love is not completely absent in the story, especially Katniss’s love for her sister and Rue.

I’ve always wanted to write a book like that, hidden meaning about life and how sad the world is, yet giving people hope that humanity is still alive.

The characters are each so interesting and well presented, even the side characters, that you just want to see more of them, especially Cinna, Haymitch and Rue, they made me fell deeply in love with them within just the short while they’re on the screen.

They’re like a star on their own, each so special and interesting, if only they had told the story of the tributes too so that their death will mean something more to the audience.

Jennifer Lawrance did an awesome job portraying Katniss, despite the lack of olive skin(which is told in the book), I already loved her when I watch X-Men: First Class, I’m glad this movie became a blockbuster and she’s probably going to become even more famous(in a good way) than Kristen Stewart.

Josh Hutcherson is of course, simply gorgeous, though I kind of hated Peeta at the beginning, but when I really know about how this character is like, Josh’s version of him just can’t help but to make me feel something towards him. I mean just look at those eyes.

I will definitely give the movie a 10 if they kept up to the standard before the tributes start fighting.

The game was disappointing, even from the perspective from someone who had never read the book.

It was too rushed, the fight between the tributes didn’t create much of an impact for me like the first half of the movie.

It only brought my emotions back again when Rue appeared, then got killed, I swear she is the most adorable thing ever, even cuter than Prim in my honest opinion.

Out of topic: For those who are expecting her to be white because she remind Katniss of Prim, well fuck you racist bastard. She’s the most adorable thing no matter what her race or ‘color’ is, so shut the fuck up and stop making the fandom look like a bunch of dumb teenagers, I don’t want to relate THG with Twilight.

I expected everyone except Katniss to die, so Peeta’s survival is really a twist to the story, a rather interesting one too.

One thing I hate about this movie, the action is way too little, and when they finally fight the camera man shakes like he got tickled by a monkey in the forest.

I have mentioned this before, I absolutely hate Hollywood’s style of shaking their camera during action scenes.

Until now they still don’t get it, we don’t feel as if we’re fighting inside too, we just want to see some hot blood action, learn from Hong Kong movies.

The highlight of the story is how they fight, how they survive, the desperation, the thirst for victory… Which is presented rather hastily in the movie.

The ending was also sort of rushed, I heard many people saying that the very important part which Peeta realizing everything Katniss did was just for the games was not shown in the movie, which is a complete pity.

Because the movie ended like a Disney movie, so happy, everyone is happy, I’d love the depth and angst if the original part was told in the movie too, because that way the happiness wouldn’t become so artificial and forced.

Anyway, overall I would give this movie an 8, definitely worth watching no matter have you ever read the book, but beware, after watching you can’t help but to want to know more about it, so watch at your own risk. 8D

Also I’m wondering why is it that when Hollywood does a adaptation of their own country’s story, they do a good job, but when they touch Japanese stories(Anime, video games, horror movie), they ruin it.

Please don’t ever touch Death Note and make my L an emo kid and my Light Yagami some playboy who I won’t even find handsome.

It’s a rather short review, cause I really can’t say much about how awesome it is, it created an impact to me just like how Indiana Jones did, been a while since a movie did this to me.

I’m also happy to hear about how well the reception is and how much money it’s been earning, because I heard they will only make a second movie if they actually earn enough money, which they already did.

Catching Fire is already planned I suppose, if not I’ll cry a river and drown the world, I mean all of us who loved the movie, right?

That’s all folks. 8D

PS: Yes I was filling up the post with pictures from the movie =w= Sorry cause the review is really kind of short.
